NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An 8-month-old infant girl is brain dead after her mother left her unattended in a bathtub filling with water in a Harlem apartment, police confirmed to 1010 WINS.
The child was found face down in water around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Police said the mother told officers that she put her daughter upright into her bath seat in the tub, but that she left the bathroom because the water wasn't filling up. When the woman returned, the child was face down in the water because the seat had slipped over.
The girl's father attempted CPR on his daughter, but to no avail -- the child couldn't be revived.
The child was transported at first to Harlem Hospital, then Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
No word of charges yet, but the NYPD is investigating possible child neglect charges.
