NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A mural depicting the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna is underway across from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The former LA Laker and his daughter were killed in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26. On Friday, artist Efren Andaluz began working on the tribute on Flatbush Avenue, just across the street from the home of the Brooklyn Nets.
Andaluz told 1010 WINS's Samantha Liebman that he is a big Lakers fan and that he was devastated by Bryant's death.
The mural, in Lakers colors purple and yellow, depicts Kobe reclining on a basketball court and looking up at his daughter.
Bryant, 41, played his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the NBA directly from high school and won five NBA championships. Gianna, 13, was reportedly also a dedicated basketball player.
When the mural is complete, it will list the names of all nine people who died in the helicopter crash.
