NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Wrestling great Bret “The Hitman” Hart was attacked by an audience member at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night as he was giving an acceptance speech.

Hart, who retired from wrestling in 2000, was in the ring accepting his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame when a man in a rasta beanie rushed on stage and tackled him, videos posted to social media show.

The crowd booed as wrestlers who were in and around the ring at the time jumped in to help Hart.

Police charged 26-year-old Zachary Madsen with assault and criminal trespassing. In a statement, the WWE described him as "over-exuberant."

According to the website Fightful, Madsen is an amateur MMA fighter who “seemed harmless and nice, but often didn't make sense.”
