PODCAST: A fear of cat-human hybrids, extreme surgery – and Lizardman?!

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Centaurs. Mermaids. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They’re all examples of animal-human hybrids. While they don’t exist in real life, that hasn’t stopped them from giving people nightmares.

On this episode of “Your Weirdest Fears,” we hear from one listener named Mike who tells us he’s terrified of meeting a cat person. Not someone who loves to care for cats, but rather someone who is half cat and half human.

Mike’s fear of cat-human hybrids began in 6th grade, when he and his class took a field trip to see “Cats: The Musical” on Broadway. While he’s all grown up and aware that all animal-human hybrids are purely fictional, he anticipates that one day he will still bump into someone who has had their features altered to look like a cat through the procedure known as extreme body modification.

But is it fair to compare those who like to change their bodies with mythological creatures? Listen as host Larry Mullins sits down with one of the most popular figures within the body modification community, Erik Sprague a.k.a The Lizardman, to find out.

A self-proclaimed and proud "freak,” The Lizardman is most known for his sharpened teeth, full-body tattoo of green scales, and bifurcated tongue, among many other modifications. Here, he shares his own experience with ignorance over the years, and explains why he thinks some people can’t comprehend the concept of animal-human hybrids.
