BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey jury on Thursday convicted two women of locking an 8-year-old boy in an empty room with no lights or access to a bathroom for more than nine months, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Between April 2015 and January 2016, his parents, Donna Jung, 57, and Helecia Morris, 41, locked him in the room day and night and did not allow him to communicate with anyone.
On Jan. 9, 2016, police and agents from the Division of Child Protection and Permanency conducted a wellness check at the couple’s home.
When they found the abused 8-year-old boy, they sent him and two other children living in the home to Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center for evaluation.
Jung and Morris were arrested two days later, and all three children were placed in foster care.
Both women face up to ten years in prison for endangering the welfare of a child when they’re sentenced on July 7.
