WEST HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) – Two teens were killed when the BMW SUV they were in struck a parked truck on Long Island early Thursday in a crash that left a third teen driving the vehicle hospitalized, police said.
The three teens were in a BMW X3 when the driver, an 18-year-old woman, lost control and crashed into a parked flatbed truck in West Hempstead, according to Nassau County police.
The 1 a.m. crash at Westminster Road and Fairlawn Avenue ejected the two passengers, a 19-year-old man and 17-year-old girl, from the vehicle, police said.
Both victims suffered severe trauma and were pronounced dead at the scene. They have not been identified.
Police said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
“This vehicle left the road, struck a parked nursery truck, causing the vehicle to spin, turn over several times, ejecting two passengers,” Nassau PD Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said at a news conference.
The 18-year-old driver was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
Police said the crash is under investigation.
