3 teens arrested after gunfire breaks out in fight near NJ high school

HILLSIDE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A large fight outside a Union County high school after dismissal Monday ended with a lockdown and the arrests of three teens, police said.

A 17-year-old boy is accused of opening fire and was later charged with criminal possession of a weapon by Hillside police, along with a 17-year-old from Irvington and a 16-year-old from Hillside, a student at the high school.

Chief Vincent Ricciardi told NJ.com that cops recovered the gun along with a shell casing and other evidence from the scene. The school was placed on a brief locked down until the gun was recovered at 5 p.m.

The brawl broke out just before 3 p.m. at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Ryan Street and the incident remains under investigation.
