3 killed when car strikes NJ toll plaza, bursts into flames: officials

HAMILTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Three people were killed on Sunday after a vehicle crashed into a toll plaza on the Atlantic City Expressway and burst into flames, authorities said.

The collision was reported after 9 p.m. at the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza in Hamilton Township, New Jersey State Police said.

A car struck the tolls before bursting into flames, killing the driver and two of three passengers.

A fourth passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Images taken by a witness showed flames engulfing the entire car and the majority of the toll booth on the far right lane.

Officials are investigating what caused the crash, state police said.
