NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Antisemitic flyers were placed inside mailboxes in a Long Island neighborhood over the weekend, this time near an Orthodox synagogue.
The flyers, which were distributed in Plainview on Saturday evening, featured photographs of federal lawmakers with the Star of David drawn on their heads and a QR code for a website with antisemitic, racist and anti-LGBTQ+ posts.
The flyers also included the letters "GDL" stamped on the bottom, referring to the Goyim Defense League, an antisemitic hate group, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
In response to the flyers, Rabbi Elie Weissman at nearby Young Israel of Plainview contacted Nassau County police and a private security company.
"One of the unfortunate signs of our times is nearly all [synagogues] have to pay for security to watch them," he told Newsday.
Similar flyers have been distributed across Long Island in the past two years.
Oyster Bay Town Receiver Jeffrey Pravato said the latest threats have prompted a response in his community.
"We have our public safety patrols, and the Supervisor [Joseph] Saladino has ordered stepped-up patrols around the synagogues," Pravato added. "I've also been in constant contact with Nassau County Police Department Commissioner Ryder, also the county executive and they've also promised to step up patrols."
Anyone who has received one of the flyers is asked to contact authorities.
