The company announced its intention to close 150 stores in August and cut its workforce by 20%.
CEO Gustavo Arnal killed himself by jumping off a Manhattan skyscraper just days after the announcement amid a class action lawsuit accusing him of a “pump and dump” stock manipulation scheme.
As of May, the chain was running 955 stores, 186 of which were under brand names other than Bed Bath & Beyond.
Higher ups are hoping the cuts will save $250 million this fiscal year.
The retailer this week announced 56 of the locations it intends to shut down.
Ten of those stores are in the Tri-State Area — five in New York, three in New Jersey and two in Connecticut.
