BRIDGEWATER TWP., N.J. (1010 WINS) – Officials launched an investigation after a 4-year-old boy drowned at a new Jersey lake last Friday.
At approximately 8:37 p.m., on August 6, Bridgewater Township Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a child drowning in Sunset Lake, Prosecutor Robertson said.
Upon arrival, officers observed bystanders administering CPR on the child and immediately took over life-saving measures.
EMS brought the child to a nearby hospital while continuing life-saving measures but was later pronounced dead, officials said.
The boy was later identified by relatives as Kyle Meyers, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser set up by Michael Mclaughlin, the president of the Sunset Lake Association.
The boy’s death occurred “immediately before” the beginning of a movie night in Bridgewater, Mclaughlin wrote.
“Several of our members and their children played with Kyle in the hour or so before events unfolded,” the fundraising website reads. “As a community, we are deeply wounded.”
Detectives conducted an investigation that yielded preliminary results as an accidental drowning with a final autopsy report along with the findings remain pending.
Officials request anyone with information relating to the drowning to contact the Somerset County Prosecutors Office (908) 231-7100 or the Bridgewater Township Police Department at (908) 722-4111.
