Between the ages of 2011 and 2019, Douglas Senerth from Windsor, Connecticut spun an elaborate lie in order to steal $419,000 in supposed college tuition from his grandparents.

He then stole another $260,000 to invest in a fraudulent investment fund run by his nonexistent professor.

Senerth fabricated college transcripts, letters and email accounts to corroborate his lies.

He was arrested on unrelated burglary charges in February of 2021 and has been detained since then.

He pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and faces up to 20 years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 17, though he already agreed to pay $679,844 in restitution to his grandparents.
