The light brown Labrador Retriever, Sukie, was en route to her with her foster parents to their home in New York when she somehow got out of her crate after an airport worker took her off the plane on the morning of Sept. 15.

After Sukie got out of her crate, she wandered off of the airport property to I-95. Her foster parent, Jenn Johnson, immediately got to work making missing posters and searching for her.

On Oct. 8, Johnson said police officers who saw her posters spotted Sukie in Newark and gave her a call. The officers sent Johnson pictures of a fence that had a hole where Sukie was running back and forth, across the street and to railroad tracks.
Johnson explained that she and her husband had been working with a trapper named Jim Tierney who set up traps as well as a camera in the area, patiently waiting for Sukie to come by. She eventually did get in front of the camera on Friday night and then again on Saturday night. Tierney was able to catch her Monday morning at 3 a.m., Johnson said.

“She's pretty skinny,” Johnson told 1010 WINS. “She lost a lot of weight. Obviously that's to be expected. I think health wise, if I had to guess, I think she's probably fine. Just gonna need maybe some antibiotics or just some food and just rest. I'm sure she's very stressed. Her body's been stressed.”
Sukie is spending some time recovering at the vet under the care of shelter officials and eventually will be returned to Johnson’s care who will continue to foster her until she is adopted.
