NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Rep. George Santos’ Queens district office was vandalized with gold spray paint on Thursday, according to police.
The vandals scrawled the words “Santos is” followed by expletive words for poop in Greek, Mandarin and Spanish.
The graffiti was first reported to police around 8:30 a.m. on Friday as workers returned to the office, according to authorities.
Officials said the vandalism took place around 5 p.m. on Thursday after the office was closed for the day.
Police have not yet made any arrests.
Santos, a Republican freshman congressman, has raised the ire of Republicans and Democrats alike after a series of lies and accusations of fraud were revealed.
He admitted to lying about his heritage, job history, education and accomplishments.
State and federal prosecutors, the FBI and Brazilian law enforcement are all currently conducting criminal investigations into Santos. The FBI probe is examining accusations the legislator stole $3,000 set aside for cancer surgery for a homeless veteran’s service dog.
Richard Osthoff, the Navy veteran who accused Santos of scamming him, said he was unable to afford the surgery after Santos stole the money and his dog died without medical intervention.
Santos is currently facing calls for his resignation, including from his fellow Republican legislators.
A Newsday/Siena College poll published earlier this week found 78% of voters in his district want him to step down, including 71% of Republican voters.
Santos is viewed unfavorably by 83% of voters in his district, with only 7% approval, according to the same poll.
