Amongst the 377,565 test results reported, 84,202 or about 22% of the total were positive.

New York also reported over 11,000 hospitalizations, with over 300 new admissions, the highest total since COVID-19's peak in April of 2020. New York City accounts for much of those hospitalizations—more than half of the total.

Within the city, the outer boroughs are recording higher positivity rates than Manhattan, nearly double for some areas. Neighborhoods in The Bronx—including Fordham, Highbridge and Morris Heights—top the list with a 7-day precent positivity rate of over 46%.

In response to the alarming rates of omicron, Mayor Eric Adams announced the city would be committing nearly $145 million in resources to NYC institutions aiding in the frontlines of the surge. This includes a funds to hire additional medical workers to staff hospitals.
