NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A one-year-old girl was killed and her mom injured after they were hit by a Jeep on Staten Island Thursday morning.
The FDNY responded to reports of a woman and girl struck just after 7 a.m. at Abbot Street and Scarboro Avenue in Rosebank.
A 40-year-old woman driving a white Jeep Cherokee struck the two while making a slow, right turn at the intersection, according to officials and witnesses.

Residents and construction workers said they heard horrific screams before they rushed over to help. They found the girl on the ground with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses said the driver was a woman in medical clothing—possibly a doctor or nurse—who jumped out of the Jeep and tried to render aid to the baby.
The mom and child were transported to the north campus of Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

The baby was in critical condition and later died at the hospital. Her mom was in stable condition.
The mom and daughter are said to have often taken walks in the area where they were hit.
The driver was also transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
