NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two men were indicted Tuesday on murder and attempted murder charges in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Queens man this past summer, authorities said.
A 30-year-old Brooklyn man, Dariel Herrera, was driving a BMW he rented two days earlier near the intersection of 148th Avenue and 231st Street in Brookville on Aug. 7 around 6 p.m. when the murder happened, police said.
Herrera came across a group of four men at the intersection. He then pointed a pistol and fired several shots at them, hitting two of victims, including 19-year-old Tysheem McDonald, officials said.
McDonald was struck in the chest and later died at a nearby hospital. Another man was hit in the leg, court documents show.
The other two men, including 22-year-old Queens man Zandrae Ennis, then allegedly drove away on 231st Street in a Honda. While inside the car, Ennis pointed a pistol and fired several shots at Herrera.
“The only way to describe this incident is to say that it was as mindless and reckless as it was tragic,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “These arrests and indictments send the message that law enforcement will not put up with this kind of dangerous lawlessness.”
Herrera was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree assault. His next court date is Feb. 3. Herrera faces 25 years to life in prison.
Ennis was charged with second-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. His next court date is Feb. 8. Ennis faces up to 25 years in prison.
