NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Two MTA workers were injured in separate attacks in Manhattan this weekend, police said.

A 52-year-old bus operator was robbed in midtown just before 6 a.m. Saturday as he was heading to work, police said.

Jose Valle was walking from Penn Station to the Michael J. Quill Bus Depot when he was robbed near Dyer Avenue and W. 40th Street, police said.

Valle told 1010 WINS that he was crossing Dyer Avenue when he was targeted by several men.

“One of the guys, he steps in front me and the other guy, he hit me right in my head and he throw me on the ground,” Valle said.

The suspects beat and kicked him and even followed him across 10th Avenue as he tried to call police, ultimately taking his phone.

Valle is recovering at home after going to a hospital.

Police said three suspects were arrested in the robbery.

Another MTA worker was attacked in the subway in Harlem early Sunday morning.

Police said the employee got into a verbal dispute with a man on a 3 train at the Harlem/148th Street station and asked the man to get off the train.

The dispute escalated and the MTA employee was punched in the face by the man, who then fled, police said.

The worker was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with non-serious injuries, according to police.

Police are still searching for a suspect in the attack.

The assaults come amid a spike in violent crime in the transit system.
