NYPD searching for 2 people who threatened Smashburger employee with anti-gay hate speech

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a man and a woman who threatened an 18-year-old Midtown Smashburger employee with a sharp object and berated him with homophobic hate speech.

The two unidentified suspects got in an argument with the fast-casual chain restaurant worker around 5 p.m. at the Smashburger on 8th Avenue near 42nd Street, officials said.

The woman pulled out a sharp object and started making anti-gay remarks to the man, before they both fled on foot, according to authorities.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police have not yet made any arrests, but the NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is investigating.
