Authorities said the incident was reported on Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway just after 4 p.m. when the female driver lost control of the vehicle, driving over a curb and into the car wash.

A 10-year-old girl, identified as Davina Afokoba, was pinned between the car and the car wash and pronounced dead at the scene while a 33-year-old pedestrian was taken to Jamaica Hospital with injuries in an unknown condition.

The 35-year-old driver, who reportedly had a learner's permit, remained on the scene and also suffered injuries.

The car went so far into the car wash it caused a partial collapse of the building.

It remains unknown what caused the driver to lose control of the car.
