NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Three corrections officers at Rikers were fired after they were caught drinking on the job while working at the Manhattan Detention Center, the Department of Correction said on Saturday.
The decision was made after an administrative judge found the misconduct allegations against Sylvester Wilson, Korylle Cameron and Chanel Winfrey credible on Monday.
Wilson was caught on surveillance cameras entering a prison bathroom to spike the guards’ coffee cups with coconut liquor in June 2019.
After they were caught, Wilson attempted to cover up the misconduct by ditching the bottle and lying about the contents of his coffee cup, which later tested positive for alcohol.
The judge had recommended only Wilson be fired, due to a previous excessive force incident, but the DOC opted to terminate all three.
