NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Ten more kids will get to attend a state or city university free of cost — and more than half of the latest “Vaccine, Educate, Graduate” winners hail from New York City.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the third round of vaccine scholarship winners Wednesday, where kids 5-11 years old who get their first shot by Dec. 19 can enter the random drawing.
"Through the 'Vaccinate, Educate, Graduate' program, ten more young New Yorkers will be able to receive life-changing education opportunities at any SUNY or CUNY college or university," Hochul said. "The holiday season is among us and I encourage all parents and guardians to get their children vaccinated. The vaccine is the surest way to keep you and your loved ones safe.”
Parents or guardians of kids within the age group can enter them in the scholarship drawing, which offers a full scholarship to any two- or four-year SUNY or CUNY school, including tuition, room and board.
The latest winners include seven city residents — four from Brooklyn, one from Manhattan, one from Staten Island and one from the Bronx. Two other winners hail from Westchester and Ulster counties.
There will be 50 winners in all, with 30 announced so far. 14 of the scholarship recipients in the first three rounds are from New York City.
The next two rounds will be announced on Dec. 15 and 22.
Parents can enter their kids at this link, or by calling 1-833-697-4829. Only one entry per child will be accepted by the state, and the child must have gotten their first vaccine dose at least a day before entering.
