NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Chazz Palminteri joined Newsline with Brigitte Quinn Tuesday to discuss the 30th anniversary of "A Bronx Tale," which was written and starred in both the stage and film versions by the Bronx native and will close out this year's Tribeca Festival next Saturday.
The coming-of-age story follows a teenager named Calogero who falls under the influence of a local mob boss, which leaves him torn between the world of organized crime and the values that his hardworking and honest father tries to instill in him.
After the special anniversary version of the film is screened at the Beacon Theater in 4K, Palminteri, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in "Bullets Over Broadway," will participate in a Q&A with the film's director and co-star Robert DiNero, who is also the festival's co-founder.
Palminteri told Newsline that the film still "resonates" across the globe 30 years after its release.
"It's a huge hit in Japan," he added. "They love it in Japan. They love it in London, they love it all over Europe. They love it in Saudi Arabia. ... The movie just hits those chords. You know, these are archetype characters, and so everybody relates to them. Everybody has a parent, a father, a mother wishing for them. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent."
