Cops said they have learned that the 911 call that reported a man armed with "a gun and a knife" was made by the deceased man and that the phone used to make the report was found to be in his possession at the scene.

At a Monday morning news conference, Assistant Chief Michael Kemper, the commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, said uniformed officers responded around 4:10 a.m. to the report of the man armed with a gun and a knife at Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man was holding a knife in one hand and had his other hand in his coat, according to Kemper.

The officers told the man “numerous” times to drop the knife, but he ignored them and walked along Eastern Parkway into the Utica Avenue subway station, Kemper said.

Officers followed the man into the station, where they continued to give verbal commands for him to drop the knife, according to Kemper, who said two officers eventually deployed their Tasers, striking the man “with no effect.”

The man fled out of the station and back onto Eastern Parkway, where additional officers “gave numerous verbal commands for the male to drop the knife and show them his hands,” Kemper said.

“The male again ignored their repeated orders,” Kemper said. “It was at this time that the male began to advance towards the officers and then suddenly charged at them with the knife.”

Kemper said two officers fired several rounds at the man, striking him in the torso. They then immediately began rendering aid and requested an ambulance, he said.

EMS responded and transported the man to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been made available at this time.

Authorities said Tuesday that "a suicide note" was also found at his family's residence. NYPD records show officers responded to two prior incidents where the individual attempted to take his own life.

The shooting remains under investigation by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division and by the New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation.
