NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Brooklyn fire that killed a 36-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter early Tuesday morning is no longer considered suspicious, according to police.

Law enforcement originally suspected arson because accelerant was found in the apartment, but officials now believe the chemicals were part of 37-year-old father Mefeed Al Haddad’s homemade vape business.

The fire ripped through an East New York home on Fountain Avenue near Glenmore Avenue around 2:14 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The blaze killed a 36-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter. It also severely injured three other children ages nine to 14, all of whom are in critical condition. Al Haddad suffered burns to his hands and legs.

Al Haddad had been manufacturing and selling custom-made vape pens in the apartment. The chemicals used to make the vapes likely started or intensified the fire, according to officials.

Police initially believed the fire was caused by arson, but now discount the theory.
