The confrontation took place as the southbound train approached the 59th Street-Columbus Circle station around 10:33 a.m., officials said.
The incensed 19-year-old pulled a “cutting instrument” on the spitting man and slashed his arm and back, according to authorities.
The 23-year-old only suffered minor lacerations. Emergency responders took him to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.
Police arrested both men, and charges are pending for each.
