NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- When one of the year’s biggest events is days away, even little pieces of paper have to be tested to make sure they’re ready.

Confetti rained down from the Marquee of the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square Wednesday, with their “air worthiness test” being deemed a success.

It was just a small sample of what’ll come down at midnight Saturday — 3,000 pounds of confetti will be released when the iconic ball drops in Times Square.

And on that night, the confetti will come with wishes of people worldwide, thanks to Times Square Alliance’s Wishing Wall. Those who took part could write their wishes for 2022 down on pieces of confetti that’ll fall on top of revelers and into the street.

Earlier this week, the New Year’s Eve ball had its finishing touches put on it as well. Approximately 192 crystal spheres were added to the structure, which this year has the theme of the “Gift of Wisdom.”

New Year’s Eve in Times Square is moving forward despite massive COVID-19 numbers in the city. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that that event will be scaled back, with less attendees, proof of full vaccination with valid photo ID and a requirement to wear masks.
