NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — NYPD Officer Muhammed Chowdhury stood up from the required wheelchair outside of NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Thursday and walked to his cousin's waiting car.
"We're really thrilled that Muhammed was able to walk out of the hospital safely," said Chowdhury's commanding officer, Deputy Inspector William Gallagher.
Gallagher was among hundreds of cops cheering their colleague as he recovers from a vicious robbery and beating the 18-year NYPD veteran suffered last month while jogging off-duty close to his Bronx home.
A second teen, 16 years old, is now in custody.

Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch said the courts have to cooperate.
"What we can't allow — and we ask the public to help us — we cannot allow him to walk out the door," he said.
Police link a group of teens to 25 violent robberies in the Bronx and northern Manhattan.
Oshawn Logan was arrested and charged last month. A criminal complaint, reviewed by the Daily News, alleged the 18-year-old admitted his part in the attack.
Lynch said investigators will find the rest of the suspects who attacked Chowdhury.
"The rest of the justice system needs to do its part," he added.
