NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police have identified a man they say pushed a Brooklyn mother down a flight of subway stairs in Manhattan during an attempted robbery earlier this month, leaving her with injuries to which she ultimately succumbed.
Than Htwe, 58, died at a hospital on Wednesday morning, the NYPD said. The department is now searching for 52-year-old David Robinson, the man they say tried to rob her inside the lower Manhattan station.
Earlier this week, Htwe's family said on a GoFundMe page that a doctor told them she "won’t make it out of this" and that they planned to donate her organs to people in need.
"If you know anything about the guy who did this to her. Please let the police know! He needs to pay justice for what has been done!!" the family wrote on the fundraising page.
Police said Htwe and her son were walking up stairs at the Canal Street subway station around 7 a.m. on July 17 when a man grabbed her son's bag, causing both the mom and son to fall down the stairs.
Htwe was hospitalized in critical condition and had to undergo emergency brain surgery, according to police and her family. Her son reportedly suffered minor injuries.
The family previously said that a doctor told them the trauma to her head was so severe “she won’t be able to wake up.”
Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
