NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An accused gang member stabbed a correction captain in the neck at Rikers Island, the city Correction Department confirmed Wednesday.

The assault happened during a melee inside the George R. Vierno Center around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The captain was taken with a neck wound to Mount Sinai Queens, where he was listed in stable condition.

The alleged stabber was identified as Malik Facey by the Daily News, which cited sources.

Facey is at Rikers for the killing of 25-year-old James Weeks, a bystander who was struck by a stray bullet on the Lower East Side in July 2019.

Facey will now face additional charges for Tuesday’s stabbing, officials said.

“This was a heinous assault on a captain who was just doing his job,” Correction Commissioner Louis Molina said. “Violence against staff is never tolerated.”
