NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — CUNY intends to spend $750,000 to combat antisemitism and other forms of ethnic bigotry at the system’s 25 schools.

In a letter to Brooklyn Councilmember Inna Vernikov, CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez said the schools would open a system-wide web page for reporting incidents on campus, including antisemitic incidents.

The letter, which was obtained by the New York Post, also detailed a plan to require college presidents and deans to submit a twice annual report on hate incidents.

The school system intends to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism to be used in staff and student diversity training.

“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews,” reads the definition. “Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

The changes come after a series of antisemitic incidents at CUNY campuses, including a John Jay College student who posted a picture of Hitler on Instagram with the caption “We need another Hitler today.”
