NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A customer was shot and wounded as he tried to stop a robbery at an Upper West Side smoke shop early Monday morning, police said.

The 29-year-old man was shopping inside Lincoln Convenience at Broadway and W. 71st Street around 4:20 a.m. when four men held up a worker and stole cash from the register.

The good Samaritan tried to intervene, and one of the men shot him in the foot, police said.

The thieves fled from the store and remained at large Monday.

The injured customer was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

It's the second time the smoke shop has been robbed in three days.
