The 73-year-old victim, who the New York Post identified as A. Saverio "Sam" Costanza, left his car running and unattended just before 7 p.m. in front of Sam's Deli at 275 West 4th St., police said.

As Costanza reportedly popped inside the deli, cops said Tabbica Mahmoud got into the driver's seat of the empty car without permission.

According to the police, as the 44-year-old started to drive away, Costanza leaped inside the car through the passenger-side window.

Costanza was pulled a short distance and his foot was run over by the car before Mahmoud crashed into a building at West 4th and Bank streets.

The 73-year-old sustained a serious injury to his right leg and was taken by EMS to NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue where he is listed in stable condition.

Mahmoud was arrested at the scene and transported to the same hospital for evaluation by EMS. He was charged with grand larceny of a vehicle, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The Brooklyn native has a long rap sheet with 26 prior arrests, including 17 felonies, police told the Post.
