According to Suffolk County police, a person called 911 at around 11:30 a.m. after spotting the two dogs abandoned in a 2010 Acura MDX in the parking lot of 460 County Road 111 in Manorville.
Seventh Precinct officers responded, as did a paramedic from Manorville Community Ambulance. The paramedic broke the window and removed the dogs from the SUV.
The dogs, a 3-year-old female Labrador named Princess and an 8-year-old male Bichon Poodle named Ridgley, were unharmed.
Maria Chojncka, of Middle Village, who was taking care of the dogs for their owner, was charged with two counts of confinement of a companion animal in a vehicle during extreme temperatures, police said.
The 60-year-old was issued issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled for arraignment at a later date.
