A preliminary investigation determined that a 2009 black Mercedes Benz C300 sedan travelling southbound on the New England Thruway, exited the roadway and fell onto the road below the elevated thruway.

According to police, the Mercedes failed to properly navigate the curvature of the ramp prior to driving off the roadway, and the forward momentum caused the vehicle to continue to travel for a short distance before coming to a rest at a home on Pelham Bay Park West in Eastchester.

The incident caused minor property damage to the residence.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle via the rear windshield, and sustained trauma to his body, authorities said.

EMS transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

The front seat passenger of the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, suffered a leg injury. She was also transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi by EMS in stable condition.

There were no other vehicles involved in this incident and the investigation remains ongoing.
