Driver who critically injured man, 23, while doing donuts on NYC street surrenders: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The driver accused of critically injuring a man while doing donuts on a Manhattan street was charged after he turned himself in on Wednesday, according to officials.

Tyler Greer, 22, of Piscataway, New Jersey was charged with assault, leaving the scene of an accident - serious injury, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, authorities said.

Just after midnight on Saturday in the vicinity of Vandam Street and Greenwich Street, 23-year-old Christopher Brito was critically injured when he fell to the ground and then was struck by the driver in front of approximately 1,000 onlookers, police said.

The victim suffered a fractured skull, brain injury, and severe trauma to the body.

EMS transported him to NYC Health and Hospital/Bellevue where he is listed as being in critical condition, the NYPD said.

An investigation is ongoing.
