E-bike rider dead after speed bump sends him crashing into Queens utility pole

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A speeding e-bike rider died after he hit a speed bump and was sent careening into a utility pole in Queens on Monday evening, police said.

The 48-year-old victim was riding a Fly Z6 e-bike at a “high rate of speed” down Maurice Avenue in Maspeth around 6:40 p.m. when he struck a speed bump near 53rd Avenue and lost control.

The e-bike then barreled into a utility pole, according to a preliminary investigation by police.

EMS rushed the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Jaime Aguilar, of Corona.

The NYPD said an investigation into the crash is ongoing. No other injuries were reported.
