NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An Upper Manhattan father was shot to death in front of his young daughter at a bodega in Inwood on Thursday afternoon, police said as they search for the gunman.
Tykeem Berry, 30, was gunned down just after 4 p.m. inside of the 144 Deli Grocery at Nagel Avenue and Thayer Street as he stopped there to pick up a snack with his 9-year-old daughter.
Surveillance video shows a man in a green North Face jacket enter the bodega. He appears to shout at Berry, who follows him outside. When Berry reenters the store, the suspected shooter returns and pulls the trigger.
Berry was shot in the chest, police said. He stumbled outside and was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.
The bodega’s owner, who gave his first name, Ahmed, said he and other witnesses made sure Berry’s daughter didn’t see him after he’d been shot.
“We keep her inside, we give her soda, we give her whatever she want,” he said.
The girl was not physically injured, according to police.
Sources told 1010 WINS that it appears Berry and the shooter knew each other.
No arrests had been reported as of Friday.
