The call came in at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, when two boys fell through the ice at Baisley Pond, located in Jamaica.

Officials said the two were skating and became stuck on a day where temps were already very cold.

Officials said firefighter John Fils Aime and probationary firefighter Conor O’Malley spotted the boys about 40 feet out, put on their gear and attached themselves to tether lines.

The duo entered the water and brought the two back to land with rescue rings. The boys were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

“This successful rescue of these individuals is a direct reflection of the constant training we do for these situations,” said FDNY Battalion Chief Chris Paolicelli.

O’Malley said that someone is always assigned to water rescue, so when the alarm went off Thursday, he was ready.

“It was a group effort among the members on land and the members in the water to achieve a positive outcome for the individuals,” he said.
