NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A firefighter was injured while fighting a four-alarm fire early Saturday in the Bronx that investigators said was caused by an e-bike battery.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 2230 Grand Concourse just after 2 a.m., which started on the building’s first floor and spread to upper floors.
Nearly 170 fire and EMS members responded to the scene, which was brought under control about three hours later.
One firefighter went to an area hospital for undisclosed injuries related to the fire.
Fire officials confirmed that the fire was connected to the Caridad Restaurant on the building’s first floor, where delivery workers store their e-bikes, and a fire sparked from a lithium-ion battery.
The FDNY issued a warning Saturday about such batteries, saying, “If using a lithium battery, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storage. Always use the manufacturer’s cord and power adapter made specifically for the device. If a battery overheats, discontinue use immediately.”
