NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A former lacrosse captain at St. John’s University in Queens was convicted of stabbing his teammate after an argument over loud music, the Queens District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Team captain Matthew Stockfeder, 23, got into a fight with victim, teammate and roommate Justin Corpolongo in 2019 when the student came home after a bartending shift and unplugged Stockfeder’s speakers while he was partying, the New York Post reported.
Stockfeder and the roughly 20 students he was partying with relocated, but the two roomies continued to bicker in the house group chat.
Corpolongo eventually went to the new party location to confront Stockfeder.
Fighting words turned to blows. But before the fight could resolve Stockfeder’s friends grabbed Corpolongo, and the team captain stabbed his teammate twice in the stomach.
“The victim in this case was nearly eviscerated by the defendant after an argument escalated to a physical altercation,” said Queen’s District Attorney Melilnda Katz. “As others broke up the fight, the defendant pulled out a kitchen knife and plunged it twice into his teammate’s abdomen,”
Emergency responders rushed Corpolongo to a hospital, where a surgeon repaired a laceration to his lower intestine, likely saving his life.
Stockfeder was convicted of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, for which he faces a maximum of 26 years in prison.
