
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating after a 10-year-old girl claimed that an ice cream truck driver on Staten Island attempted to abduct her on Sunday afternoon.
According to a preliminary NYPD investigation, the girl told her mother that she was walking to a nearby deli in Mariners Harbor when the driver grabbed her by the wrist into the truck but managed to break free.
After managing to escape, the girl called her mother who called NYPD officers at around 4:41 p.m., a police spokesman said.
Officials canvassed the area for the ice cream truck which was later found in the vicinity of Amity Place and Forest Avenue, just over one mile from the where the initial incident took place.
As of 7:30 p.m., authorities had a person of interest in custody a NYPD spokesman added.
An investigation remains ongoing.
