NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a 79-year-old woman in Queens on Monday evening.

The victim, identified as Helena Conti, was struck by a blue sedan at Cooper Avenue and 83rd Street in Middle Village shortly before 6 p.m.
Conti was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said the blue sedan was traveling eastbound on Cooper Avenue when it struck Conti, who was crossing midblock.
The vehicle’s driver did not remain at the scene, police said.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is probing the crash.
