NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two horses suffered minor injuries after falling from a moving trailer on a Staten Island Expressway on Sunday, according to officials.

Police said the trailer that the horses were on broke open along causing them to fall out on the southbound West Shore Expressway, near exit 3 in Travis Chelsea.
"PO Herrera, PO Barry and Sgt Slade of Hwy 5 & 2 at the scene of an incident on the West Shore Expwy where a horse freed itself from its trailer…sending 2 horses onto the Highway. Members of H5 helped lead the horses to safety. Horses reloaded onto trailer & are ok," officials wrote on Twitter.
The driver was able to pull over and corral the animals.
The animals suffered scrapes and road burns as a result of the fall and minor bleeding but are expected to be OK.
The NYPD released video footage of the horses who were seen being walked after the accident.
A veterinarian checked the horses out at the scene before they were cleared to be taken to a veterinary office in a different trailer, officials said.
