The 26-year-old victim was targeted by the pair around 10:30 p.m. on Bartlett Street, near Throop Avenue, in Williamsburg, according to police.

The victim fell while running from his attackers, who then struck him in the head with an unknown object, police said.

He suffered a serious laceration to his head requiring nine staples. He also had cuts to his knees and face.

The two assailants took off in a car, according to police, who said the vehicle may have had New Jersey plates.

The NYPD confirmed the attack was being investigated as a possible hate crime.

The city saw a spike in anti-Jewish hate crimes in 2021, according to NYPD data.

There were 179 anti-Jewish hate crimes reported through Nov. 28 of last year, a 48% increase from the 121 reported in the same period in 2020.
