
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Joyce Dinkins, NYC's first Black first lady, has died, her family confirmed Monday night. She was 89.
David Dinkins served as mayor of the city from 1990 to 1993.
"We lost a great woman, Mrs. Joyce Dinkins," Rev. Al Sharpton tweeted. "She was a quiet but strong committed woman who made us sit up w/ pride. She will be missed and always remembered. I talked w/ Mayor Dinkins to salute her Spirit, May she rest in Power. Our First Lady forever!"
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams tweeted, "My heart is truly heavy over the passing of Joyce Dinkins, a remarkable woman who saw the best in every one of us. I felt a special bond with our late First Lady, a mother-son relationship that filled my life with love and strength."
