NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Macy's Fourth of July fireworks celebration will return for its 47th year next month with a mile-wide "waving flag," officials said Monday.

This year's dazzling display, which will start around 9:25 p.m. that Tuesday, will launch 60,000 shells and effects from five barges positioned between E. 26th and E. 40th streets along the East River with prime viewing off the Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn waterfronts.

The official viewing locations in those three boroughs, overseen and managed by the NYPD, will be announced in the weeks ahead. Viewers are encouraged to check macys.com/fireworks for updates.

Will Coss, executive producer of Macy's 4th of July Fireworks, said that the show "will be nothing short of showstopping."

"Millions of spectators come together every year to witness the spectacular performance along the East River and we are ready to deliver a high-flying, jaw-dropping fireworks display that will fill the night sky with color, light, shapes, and thunderous sound," he added.

According to Macy's, new effects include "a mile wide waving flag created by a combination of red, white, and blue palm and strobing shells, sunflower ring with crackling pistil shells, red stop sign shaped effects, and new Ghost pyro that turn from one color to another in an on/off design featuring four different hues."

The 25-minute extravaganza is synchronized to a spectacular musical score, featuring patriotic favorites like "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Born in the USA."

Spectators watching the show live in New York City can only hear the official score in one place — 1010 WINS on the radio or online.

The event can also be watched with a two-hour special starting at 8 p.m. on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
