Officers were searching for a shooter following reports of gunfire, when they encountered an armed man, police said.

The officers ordered the man “numerous times” to drop the firearm, but instead he pointed it in the direction of the officers, according to police.

The officers discharged their firearms, striking the man in the torso, police said. It’s unclear how many officers fired.

The suspect was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He’s awaiting charges.

The officers were not injured.

Police released a photo of a firearm they say was recovered at the scene.
