Dimitry Maneiro, 38, was attempting to cross Rockaway Boulevard at Brookville Boulevard when a driver in a 2014 Infinity heading north hit him around 1 a.m., police said.

Maneiro lived just a short walk from the crash, according to police.

Cops responding to the crash found Maneiro unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to his body, police said.

EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver fled and an investigation is ongoing

Maneiro’s death comes as traffic fatalities surge in New York City. Traffic deaths are on pace to rise for the second straight year. There were 194 reported through Sept. 26 of 2021, up from 164 fatalities at that point last year — an 18.3% spike.
