Man, 55, arrested after assault gun seized during raid on Staten Island

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD arrested a man after an an assault gun was allegedly seized during a raid at a Staten Island apartment earlier this week, authorities said.

At at about 6:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, officials raided the apartment of 55-year-old Pierre Gershwin located on Cary Avenue in West Brighton, officials said.

Officers allegedly recovered semi-automatic, 9mm pistol with a detachable magazine and threaded barrel was allegedly secreted in a box inside a bedroom closet along with accessories and ammunition.

A second magazine capable of accepting multiple rounds of 9mm bullets and loose bullets was also allegedly confiscated, according to a criminal complaint.

The criminal complaint also alleged that Gershwin did "not have a valid permit to possess firearms, rifles or shotguns," and that Gershwin is "not a dealer in rifles or shotguns in New York City."

Gershwin was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition, according to complaint.

Gershwin is being held at Rikers Island and is due back in court on Feb. 27.
